Action Art Festival – Leave The Art Alone

Zkoušíme tvarovat svět s jejich pomocí, tvarovat myšlenky ostatních a naopak, my jsme jimi tvarováni. Nakonec je nejasné, kdo tvaruje koho, kdo vítězí nad kým a kdo prohrává.
Během tohoto Festivalu akčního umění, ať skrze individuální nebo kolektivní práce, my budeme zkoumat, jak oddělit naše umělecké já od této rozsáhlé mediální přítomnosti. Pokusíme se udělat krok zpět z tohoto neustálého požadavku umělecké a osobní účasti v jakékoliv kampani.

Leave The Art Alone, Action Art Festival in Nachod, 2025
I’ve been thinking about how people today are deeply immersed in the media. Whenever something bad happens, someone immediately brings it to the media, demanding that everyone take a side or get involved. In the art world, we now see a growing pressure to be part of every issue.
But can we still be artists without having to actively participate in all of these problems? Of course, we care about the issues and can express our thoughts through our work. But do we need to take sides or criticize others who don’t share the same views? Must we judge those who choose a different approach?
In our contemporary society, we are willing participants in countless campaigns – small, large, or global – that are shaped, filtered, prepared, and delivered by the vast and complex machinery of media. This media landscape surrounds and influences both our bodies and minds. We are so attached to this media-driven virtual reality that we behave almost like its children.
There is no true escape from it. We make decisions based on what the media shows us. We try to shape the world through it, shape other’s thoughts, and in turn, we ourselves are shaped by it. In the end, it becomes unclear who is shaping whom, who is winning, and who is losing.
During this Action Art Festival, whether through individual pieces or collective works, we will explore how to distance our artistic selves from this overwhelming media presence. We aim to step back from the constant demand for artistic and personal engagement in every kind of campaign.

Joakim Stampe

Joakim Stampe, 1959 born and based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Stampe is a prominent figure in Swedish and international performance art. With more than 150 works performed in over 20 countries, he has established himself as one of Sweden’s leading artists in the field. Born into an artistic family, he began painting at an early age but soon left the canvas to explore object painting, public art, and later street art and urban water paintings. A decisive moment came in 2006 when he co-founded Live Action, today one of Europe’s foremost platforms for contemporary performance art. Since then, he has deepened his artistic language in works that merge body, material, and narrative with a strong sense of presence. Using unexpected materials, such as wine, stones, flags, and dead bees – he transforms everyday objects into charged, poetic expressions. Stampe’s art is defined by the intensity of the moment and a sensitive dialogue with both space and the audience. In a time dominated by screens and algorithms, his performances remind us of the human encounter, where vulnerability and strength coexist, and where performance becomes a tool for transformation—both inner and outer.

Jonne Väisänen, born 1994 in Kuopio, Finland, operates in the literal universe and is as well based there. The so-called “real” (social) context is the source of his artistic working material, as the “it” is happening on levels that are not always material and permanent. Väisänen’s works are often described as underground with(in) their immaterial presence – the character is dynamically changing in order to achieve processual outcomes. When looking at (the) works from a (safe) distance, we can point out performative and/or action art aspects in the gestures, that comprise typical physical/visual artworks.

BBB Johannes Deimling

BBB Johannes Deimling is a German artist and educator who grew up in the analogue world. He has witnessed the shift in perception, memory and communication that has occurred on the way into the digital age. His artistic response are poetic performances in which everyday gestures and objects are transformed into ephemeral images. These ‚acted images‘ simultaneously appear as acts of presence and as proposals for perceiving the world differently. In his work, poetry can be more powerful than critique and silence can be more expressive than words.
Over the years, Deimling has developed a practice grounded in an ever-expanding alphabet of artistic actions. Through collage techniques, this alphabet has evolved into a visual language from which his original works emerge. He is searching for the subtle moment when the ordinary turns into something that lingers.
Alongside his artistic work, Deimling has maintained a long-standing commitment to art education. Since the late 1990s, he has taught performance processes at various art academies around the world. In 2008, he founded PAS (Performance Art Studies), an independent art and education project which he continues to lead as artistic director. His teaching fosters experimentation sharpens perception and encourages playful curiosity in image-making. Central to his pedagogy is creating learning situations where knowledge, imagination and artistic practice intersect.

Marcin Mierzicki
Hmota a její střety provokuje smysluplný obsah.

Marcin Mierzicki, born in Lublin in 1973, Poland. He is a graduate of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, where he earned a degree in painting and PhD in art. He is a visual artist, he creates paintings, installations, objects, and video works. His practice begins with the image and transcends the typical two-dimensional plane of the image to emphasize its materiality. He creates works that incorporate social context, are based on process-based activities, and challenge the viewer to participate in the outcomes of these activities. He received scholarships from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage in 2005 and 2011, the second prize at the Wrocław Drawing Triennial in 2022, as well as the artistic scholarship from the Mayor of Wrocław for 2025.
“I don’t do decoration. The art I make is a conscious navigation through ambiguos terrain, a field risk. It is a subjective statement and an area of confrontation on the verge of contradicion and personal challenge. My activity constitutes a forum of experience and a certain kind of training ground. I seek tension and possibilities in pushing my own boundaries. What interests me are the processes, I strive to generate a distinctive potential. The scope of my practice is defined by spatial attention, focus on matter and shifting accents between the media I employ. My principal fascination is altering the original status of things. The materials I use in my work come from the „worm-out“ day-to-day reality. Matter and its clashes provoke meaningful content. „The ironic appearance of things“ in my art often emphasises their unclear status that undergoes further processing and changes in meaning. My works are   a certain kind of communication – they constitute visual information contesting the established modes of perception.”

Dirk Großer
Akce Dirka Großera, instalace, performance, filmy a malby zpracovávají koncept svobody. „Mé práce zkoumají kolektivní identitu a její vztah k nesvobodě. Zpracovávají „právo na svobodu oproti instrumentalizaci (zneužití) a institucionální sebe-referenci.“ Jeho práce zahrnuje velké úsilí a zájem o všechny projevy života. Pracuje projektově a s pochopením života, jeho epizod. Umění vidí jako dobrodružství. Navzdory teroru a korupci, umění nabývá další významy a smysl. „Let’s Leave It for Better Times“ o uměleckém hnutí během války na Ukrajině, vidí roli umělce jako mediátora.

Dirk Großers actions, installations, performances, films, and paintings explore the concept of freedom. „My works examine the social „we“ and its relationship to unfreedom. They formulate a claim to freedom against instrumentalization and institutional self-reference.“ His work is preceded by great energy and interest in all processes of life. He works project-oriented and understands life, his biography, and art as an adventure. Against the backdrop of terror and corruption, art takes on a further level of meaning. Art must intervene and help shape society. In this context, he uses documents, interviews, and a virtual team for his projects and installations. In his exhibition curations, as the holder of the artist’s residency at the Torhaus Stadt Wehlen, and in film projects, such as the film „Let’s Leave It for Better Times“ – about the art movement during the war in Ukraine – he sees the role of the artist as a mediator. Art history can just as easily be viewed as a movement of freedom.

Jiří Surůvka
Jiří Surůvka, malíř, autor digitálních tisků, objektů a performer, člen ostravské výtvarně-literární skupiny Přirození, skupiny František Lozinský o.p.s. (s Petrem Lysáčkem a Františkem Kowolowským) a pedagog ateliéru Video-multimedia-performance Fakulty umění Ostravské Univerzity.
A socialismus to řešil dle svých potřeb, a určoval naše životy.

Jiří Surůvka, painter, author of digital prints, objects, and performer, member of the Ostrava visual-literary group Přirození, the group of František Lozinský o.p.s. (with Petr Lysáček and František Kowolowský), and educator at the Video-Multimedia-Performance studio of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ostrava. “In my performances, which I do in various disguises (most often parodying Batman, in his tracksuit version, as someone humorously noted), I essentially have one „message“ — no superhero will help you, only yourself. If you want to change the world, start first with yourself! Many people continue to live in the old illusion of socialism — that the state is obliged to solve citizens‘ lives from birth, childhood, schools, employment, to retirement and funeral… And socialism addressed this according to its needs, directing our lives. This can only suffice for a complete fool without any ambition to be the master of their own happiness… at the cost of limiting freedom and the right to one’s own opinion.”
